2001 — How I Found Almased
It was October or November of 2001, and my family and I were about to go on a Christmas cruise. I was 273 pounds, and when you’re that heavy, you just look forward to your next meal. Of course I wanted to lose some weight so my clothes would fit.
I was going to a woman who had a health food store called Mother Earth in Dalton, Georgia. She knew a lot about different things. She told me:
“You need to try Almased. You can lose 20 pounds in two weeks.”
So I started right away.
In the morning, I did Almased.
In the afternoon, I had a bagel.
At night, I did Almased again.
And I lost 20 pounds in two weeks. My cruise clothes fit and I could eat on my cruise.
2002 — Starting My Health Journey & Gastric Bypass
After I returned from the cruise in January 2002, I decided I wanted to get my health in check. I changed my lifestyle completely. I cut out red meat (and I still don’t eat red meat), and I incorporated Almased twice a day.
I wasn’t perfect. I still cheated on weekends. I still had my martini. But over the years, the weight kept coming off.
That same year, I also had gastric bypass surgery. I needed something that would give me all of my protein and nutrients, and Almased provided all of that. It was just a natural thing to do as I learned a whole new lifestyle. A lot of people after bypass don’t get all their nutrients or protein. I relied on Almased, because two servings give you 50-something grams of protein, and I don’t eat a lot. Almased stayed with me through everything.
2001–2024 — How I Used Almased Over the Years
For 24 years, Almased has been a daily ritual—at least once a day, sometimes twice a day.
I started at 273 pounds.
Then I dropped to 198 and stayed there a few years.
Then I dropped another 20.
And this past year, I dropped another 20.
Now I stay between 140–144, sometimes 142–146.
Throughout all those years, I did Almased almost daily.
I used to mix it in the blender with a banana, but for years I’ve just been drinking it with water—eight scoops with water. I actually crave it at times.
I’m the number one fan.
Menopause — No Hormones, Just Almased
Almased also got me through menopause. I never used hormones, patches, estrogen, or any type of supplements. Nothing. I also ate tofu because soy was the big thing back then. But Almased was the consistent thing in my life for almost 25 years.
Two Years Ago — A Major Injury & Recovery
Two years ago, I fell and:
- Broke my shoulder
- Broke my elbow
- Fractured my upper back
I spent months in braces sitting in a recliner. It would have been so easy to fall into depression because the only pleasure I had was eating. I was very concerned about losing muscle tone and gaining weight.
So I used Almased two times a day throughout recovery. I even used a little pedal-cycle while sitting, just cycling my legs. After a year of basically doing nothing, I came out exactly where I was before the fall—same weight, same energy.
2024 — The Gynecologist’s Revelation
Just about six weeks ago, I went to my gynecologist for my physical. He looked at me and said:
“Your vaginal tissue is that of a much younger woman.”
I’ve never used hormones in my life. As we age and lose collagen and estrogen, our insides dry out. Sex becomes painful. Everything shrivels. But I don’t have that.
He said my tissue looks younger.
I’ve never looked inside my vagina, but if he says so, I’m going for it!
He asked what I’ve been consistent with in my life.
I told him:
“Not eating red meat, and Almased.”
He pulled up Almased online, researched it, and said:
“This is why your insides are like they are. This is the secret to your youth.”
My daughter is 43, and when I told her what he said, she said, “Mom, I’d better start doing this.”
How I Feel at Almost 70
I feel absolutely wonderful.
People say I don’t look 70.
I work at a med spa, and the older women come in and say:
“What do you do? I want to do what you do.”
Even the younger women say it’s never too early to start taking care of yourself. I tell them the truth: consistency pays off.
When I’m not working, I wear 3–4 inch stilettos.
I have tons of energy.
I can keep up with my 43-year-old daughter.
A lot of people my age are riddled with arthritis. Their hair is thin. Their faces are wrinkled. When I look at the people I graduated high school with, I think: “We can’t be the same age.”
I tell women:
“We don’t have to look like our mothers or grandmothers anymore. 70 is the new 55 or 60.”
My Perspective on GLP-1 Medications
At the med spa where I work, we do offer GLP-1s. And here’s what I see:
If people aren’t careful, they lose all their muscle mass. They become a bag of bones. They get caught up in the number on the scale or the size of their jeans instead of their overall health.
When you’re on a GLP-1, you lose your desire to eat. That’s why you lose weight.
But you still need protein and nutrients.
If people would incorporate Almased into their GLP-1 journey, it would be a win-win, because Almased protects muscle mass, provides nutrients, and supports overall well-being.
Why I Believe in Almased
For nearly 25 years, Almased has been the single most consistent thing I have done for myself. Through:
- Weight loss
- Gastric bypass
- Menopause
- Injury
- Aging
- Emotional hardships
Almased has been with me. I believe in it. I use it. I live it.
