Probiotics have been known to enhance the immune system and now also "may represent a significant therapeutic advancement for treating viral respiratory tract infections." A study in the journal Pediatrics recently found that daily probiotic supplementation for 6 months was a safe and effective way to reduce fever, cough and other respiratory flu symptoms among children 3 to 5 years of age. Furthermore, French researchers have discovered that a probiotic dairy drink can improve the immune response to swine flu vaccination in the elderly.
