New to Almased and Day 1 almost over Saturday, January 28, 2012 10:28 PM (permalink)
53yr female type 2 diabetes on metformin 500mg qd, hydrochlorothiazide 25mg qd, nisoldipine er 34mg qd, venlafaxine 75mg qd, enalapril 5 mg qd, low dose aspirin qd.
I'm 5'8 weigh in at 357. Want to lose weight to enjoy summer with grandkids, live longer, and take the pain out of walking.
Tried it with water only and that was nasty.... so put it off for the past few days to research more and find out what other people were doing to get over the taste.
Took blood sugar in am was 235 fasting (forgot to take it 2 hours after shake).
Don't like the taste with water only, so I am making it with 8T almased, 2t oil, 8oz juicy juice no added sugar, 2oz water and lots of ice.
Bought organic no sugar, salt vegetable broth from whole food store and just had 2 cups heated up (10 cal) have a small headache took Vit C tablet.
Not hungry for more shake do I need to take another one after drinking the other 2 and drinking green tea, water, and coffee feel like I am peeing more than usual for all the fluid.

Any suggestions? Will keep a diary to make sure that I keep track of things, and will make an appointment to see MD in 4 weeks.

I wouldnt use the jucy juice... even real fruit is loaded with sugar! your fingersticks will definitely be high, and you wont get the benefit of the low  glycemic index effect! try almond milk, soy milk, even coconut milk 100%..... I really it with the almond milk, fat free and 1 tablespoon of cocoa or cinnamon. it has a supprisingly sweeter taste and my sugars stay fine.

      Day 2 Sunday, January 29, 2012 11:30 AM (permalink)
Ok so day 1 down and here we have a new day.
Ended day 1 with stomach growling, and dreaming of poached eggs and toast. hummm don't know what that means. Have dropped 4lbs and my fasting blood was 173 lowest its been in years.
Forgot to mention that I take a multi good oils pill and vit b12 and vit d daily.
Thanks for the input MyShella but can't take the nut milks and don't want to add more soy to my diet since I am premenopausal.
After researching other juices I picked juicy juice based on the levels of nutrients

      Juicy  juice
      Sodium 20mg
      Potassium 200mg
      Carbohydrate 29%g
      Sugars 27g
      Vit. C 120%
All Juicy Juice® products contain 100% juice
This has 12o calories per 8oz

Are you able to drink skim milk? You could mix it with that.

It sounds like you're already seeing results, which is exciting! Continued good luck to you.

Get off the Juicy Juice, that thing is loaded with Sugar, 29g Carbs and 27g of Sugar, especially with the high blood sugar levels that you have, pinch your nose, do what it takes to take it down with water only. Deal with it for at least 1 week and you will see the results. Adding extra sugars to the mix will slow down the process and prevent you from ever getting off the sugar high. Even the other low carb diets restricts Carbs or Sugars to only 20g per day the first 2 weeks.

Once you are completely off the sugars, past 5 days at least you will no longer crave sweets. Water will taste a whole lot better and even celery will even taste sweet. Diet Coke will taste way sweet !!!

Going to write down what a person normally eats in Sugar for one day and we do this every day.  Just imagine pouring these scoops of sugar into a few big bowl.

            1. Morning Breakfast

Potatoes (hash, country style) ... SUGARS !   Pour 2 scoops of sugar into that bowl
Toasted Bread ... SUGARS  Pour 2 scoops of sugar into that bowl
Some type of Jam ... Sugars
Hot Cakes or Pan Cakes with Syrup!!! ... Sugars
Orange Juice ... Sugars ... keep adding more sugar into that bowl

            2. Mid Day Snack

Coke Drink ... Sugars  more sugar into the bowl
Snickers candy bar... Sugar  .. add more sugar to the bowl
Bag of Chips ...  Sugars ... yep more sugars

            3. Lunch

CheeseBurger, the buns is the Sugars ... keep adding sugar into that bowl
            Ketchup ... Sugars
            French Fries ...  Sugar
            Coke Drink .... Sugar

            4.  Afternoon Snack

            Candy bar ...   Sugar
            Coke Drink ...  Sugar
            Oreo Cookies ... Sugar
Apple or a fruit ... Sugar

            5. Dinner

Pasta Dinner ... Sugars,  yep start adding sugar to bowl number 3
            Garlic bread  ... Sugars
            Baked Potato ... Sugars
            Wine  .... Sugars
            Soda  .... Sugars

            6. Late night snack while watching a show or movie on T.V. more ... Sugars

What you see above used to be me and I finally ended up with Diabetes.

That's 3 Big bowls full of sugars per day, its no wonder why we are all sick later in life.

You ever notice that when we go to a restaurant to eat and go home, as soon as you get home you open that Fridge to see what else you can consume, its the body telling you that you need that shot of Sugar into your veins. No different then a crack addict with crack.  Sugar is Crack to us. Limit or remove this thing and beat Diabetes to a pulp.

Diagnose with Diabetes in September 2011, A1C at 8.2  went on a Full Raw Veggi diet and A1C and sugar levels dropped to 6.8 in Oct 2011 and then later in Dec to 6.2  Started to walk more on the treadmill and then started jogging. I'm hoping to get off these Diabetic Meds after my next blood work and get my A1C under 5.9

My Raw veggi diet that I used to reverse my Diabetes was Spinach, Broccoli, Asparagus and mushrooms with red vinegar and for snacks I had raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Those foods are considered super foods.  The darker the better, stay with Greens, any veggi that are White, Yellow or even orange are high in sugars.  I also removed all Animal Proteins, anything that has a head on it like fish, chicken, beef, I didn't eat. Also removed Breads, Potatoes, Pasta, Rices and Sugars from my diet.

            Today I feel great!!!

            Fred, San Diego CA

Your spiking sugar levels is exactly what is making you hungry. At least they do mine. I am pre diabetic, was on insulin for 2 of my 3 pregnancies. and if my sugar gets to 140 i am very symptomatic but never knew it unitl i maintained good blood sugar levels for 3 days on almased. I dont crave sugar at all now, and my levels are great. my mood is amazingly better, and im not nearly as tired as before! juice even pure from a juicer is a no no for diabetics! It was harder for me to give up my grape juice in the morning, than the chocolate cake but im use to it now. keep trying you will succeed!

day 2 almost over. Thank you all for your input. Fred I will try to suck it up and drink with with water only .....  ugh
I will start all over tomorrow fresh with water only, skimmed milk is nasty too so wont try it but thanks MyShella, and farmchick.
Perhaps to stop hunger pangs will get v8 low sodium to drink to get more fluid in me.
Thank you to all of you for your encouragement

                  Debidue,

You got some great advice from other Almased users.
And I think you got the idea, try to stay away from fruit juices. If it's too hard for you to go cold turkey, you can continue to add more water and less juice until you only drink water. You can add different flavors to the water that will make it taste better, such as cinnamon, vanilla extract, ground flaxseeds etc. You can be creative!
I'm a little concerned about your high fasting blood sugar levels, in the 200s. Are those your typical levels even before you started Almased and when you take your diabetes meds? Have you talked with your doctor about this before? If not, I encourage you to do so asap.
Also, I recommend downloading our Diabetes Figure Plan brochure that will give you more information on how to do the diet when having diabetes:

Thanks for the information. Yes my sugars are high right now. MD adjusted my meds and wants me to try other oral meds to protect my kidneys.  Also sugars are high cuz of other reasons, I have a sinus thing going on right now, a family funeral, stress from teen, and adult children and should I go on an on? It all makes my sugars go up and down, especially being sick it affects my sugars the worst. Like I said I will try it with water and attempt to keep it down. Its just getting over the taste and smell of it.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can affect your blood sugar as you mentioned. Hopefully, you will be able to get your blood sugar under control with your meds and Almased.
You will get used to the taste of Almased. Like Fred said, it may take a few shakes but your taste buds will adjust
