What to do with the vegetables from the broth? Sunday, May 15, 2011 7:14 AM (permalink)
What is everyone else doing with the vegetables used to make the broth?  I am assuming you have to make a few pots of broth a week.  I am starting today and am not sure how much broth to drink daily but I am assuming 1 pot wont last a week and I hate the thought of just throwing out the vegies.

Thanks!

    Hi
I had a similar dilemma,so decided to puree the vegetables and put into container in the freezer thinking of using it later in cooking, maybe making sauces or as a soup thickener, or making veggie meat balls with egg and bread crumbs. Haven't tried any of the ideas out yet!
    Good luck for your journey!

Good idea Blossom!  I just finished putting part of it in chicken broth with diced grilled chicken for hubby. I will freeze the rest and decide later what to do with it.   Wow, after making  few more pots during the next couple of weeks i will have lots to work with.  LOL

Hubby tasted the broth and now is telling me that if I lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks on this he will try it too!

I wish I could convince my hubby  so easily to lose some weight, although he is impressed how relaxed and great I feel since starting with Almased. Apparantely I'm nagging at him much less than used to .  All the best for a journey!

          Hi Jst4games123,

You may have up to 32 oz of vegetable broth per day. You can store vegetable broth for three days in the refrigerator and seven days in the freezer. For the vegetable broth, the base needs to be vegetable and not chicken broth. We recommend vegetable broth because it is calorie-free, will provide your body with added nutrients and antioxidants, keep your body hydrated, and also help curb appetite. When you make vegetable broth, all the nutrients from the vegetables will fall into the liquid. So you will be getting nutrition from the vegetables by drinking it. If you are on phase 2 of the diet program, perhaps you can save those vegetables and eat it with your meals in addition to other raw vegetables on your plate.

If you puree vegetables, make sure that it is smooth and not chunky. The vegetable broth should help hydrate your body more so than fill you up.

          Hope this helps!

            Thanks Jamie,

You might have missunderstood.  I didnt add chicken broth to my vegetable broth. I put the chicken broth in the vegetables I removed (and added chicken and other vegetables) for my husband.  I am only drinking the vegetable broth I strained off first.

Another great idea for the cooked vegetables from the veggie broth is to compost them!
That way you don't have to feel bad throwing them out
