I started Almased on March 29, 2011 and so far so good. I'm down 3 lbs. I didn't do the 3 day fast, wasn't sure how I would feel. I was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and will not attend my Diabetes orientation class until Apr. 7th. I patterned the way I make my shake after one of the people in the success stories. I use 8 tbsps of Almased, half a banana, 1 tbsp of flaxseed oil, 1 packet of stevia, one-half cup of skim milk and a cup of crushed ice. I am drinking the V-8, but not as much as I should and I haven't done the vegetable broth yet, either. Tuesday will be a week, so I weigh in then.

    Hello atrusigma,

    Welcome to the Almased forum and congratulations on your weight loss success so far!

    When having diabetes, I would be very careful with adding fruit to the shake, especially banana. The higher amount of carbs from the fruit not only spikes your blood sugar but also may make it harder for you to lose weight. I know that some people are perfectly fine adding fruit and others have a harder time losing weight. The best way to tell for you is to measure your blood sugar right before you take an Almased shake and 2 hours thereafter. That way you can see how high or low your blood sugar is and adjust the fruit accordingly.

    This brochure will give you more detailed information on how to do the diet when having diabetes and will also provide you with recipes.
