Have Questions for Nutritionist before starting

I have bought Almased and will start in 2 days - waiting for weekend to start. I have read many many posts and still have a few quesstions. Question 1, what is the difference between the Protein Shakes by Oh Yea, that I drink now and the Almased. Seems the Oh Yea have more protein and less sugar/carbs-3 gms? 2. Can I mix the Protein Shakes by Oh Yea w/ Almased for flavor? I have banana cream flavor. 3.? Other allowed beverages - green tea was mentioned - can you drink Raspberry Green Tea by Celsius (has fat burners in it but no cafeine or sugar) ? I only want to lose 10 to 12 pounds that I have gained from emotional eating since my father passed. They really piled on quick and its not just the pounds but more body fat and inches I'm interested in - as I can't fit into the clothes I was wearing this time last year. I normally do a liquid fast on Sundays every week, so I know I can make it the first day. Should I do the liquid fast longer than 2 or 3 days to lose quicker or what is the best way? I would like to lose the 10 pounds or so in 3 weeks? Thanks for any information the Nutritionist can give me or anyone else.

Hello DeeDee, Welcome to the Almased Forum! To answer your questions: 1. I assume you are comparing the 14oz Oh Yeah Protein Shake with Bananas & Cream (instead of the 8 oz). In that case, the Oh Yeah shake has 32 g of protein. One serving of the Almased powder has 25 g of protein, however, if you mix it with milk you can add another 10-12 g of protein which will give you a total of 35-37 g of protein. Also, I'm not quite sure how readily available the protein from the Oh Yeah shake is (it's a mixture of milk protein, whey protein Concentrate, calcium caseinate). We know that the fermented soy protein from Almased is readily available and easily absorbed by the body. The reason why the Oh Yeah shake has less carbs is because it is sweetened with Splenda® (sucralose), an artificial sweetener. Splenda® is comprised of sucrose (sugar) — except that three of the hydroxyl groups in the molecule have been replaced by three chlorine atoms. While some industry experts claim the molecule is similar to table sugar, other independent researchers say it has more in common with pesticides. The truth is we just don’t know yet. There are no long-term studies of the side effects of Splenda® in humans. So, I leave it up to you if you decide to consume Splenda® or not but you may prefer not to serve as a test subject for the latest artificial sweetener experiment. Almased, on the other hand, is all-natural, lightly sweetened with honey. Honey has prebiotic effects which stimulate the growth and/or activity of bacteria that are important to maintaining optimal gastrointestinal health. In addition, Almased has a low glycemic index which means that it doesn't increase your blood sugar or insulin level which helps with the fat burning process. Therefore, it is not just important to look at the amount of carbs in a product but also where they come from. There is also a lot of scientific research behind Almased and I'm not aware of any research regarding the Oh Yeah shakes. 2. I would not suggest mixing different protein shakes together. You don't need that much protein per meal. Almased will provide you with the appropriate nutrients, including protein (even if it's only mixed in water). 3. Celsius® Green Tea with Raspberry is also made with Splenda®. It won't interact with Almased, however, based on the information above I think you would be better off with making a regular green tea or raspberry tea and sweetening it with a natural flavor such as Stevia. A lot of our customers lose inches around their stomach and hip area, the so-called abdominal fat! If you don't have diabetes, you can stay on the liquid diet for up to 14 days at a time. I would suggest starting with the diet and then see how long you can fast. Once you are done with fasting, you will continue consuming 2 Almased shakes and eating 1 regular meal. Let us know how you are doing. Silke
