milk and oil Monday, June 18, 2012 4:48 PM (permalink)
Hi!

I have started using Almased 2 days ago, and already liked it!
Unfortunately I could not drink it with water, so I am mixing it with low fat milk (1.5%), and sometimes in addition some unsweetened cocoa powder or instant coffee.

As milk already has fat (and therefore fatty acids), I was wondering if it is still necessary to add any oil.

Thanks

Sel

    Hi Sel!

Welcome to our Almased forum. Thanks for your post, that is a great question. Although you will be getting some fat intake from the milk, we still recommend including oil in your diet. The oil contains higher amounts of omega-3's and essential fatty acids that may help to further improve the metabolism and other bodily functions. You can add oil to the shakes or veggie broth, or take it by itself. 2-3 tablespoons of oil (walnut, flaxseed, or olive) is recommended during the fast. The amounts can be adjusted entering the reduction phase.

I hope this answers your questions. Keep me posted on how you're doing.

    Best,
    Jamie

Can I just take Omega 3 pills instead of adding oil to the shake?

        Mskaruhl,

Though omega 3 pills are healthful supplements, they do not provide as much omega 3's as in oil nor calories to help curb appetite. We recommend adding the oil to the shakes or taking it by itself. You may like to try omega swirls from Barlean's. http://www.barleans.com/omega_swirl.asp The ladies in our office love mixing them in their shakes.
