puree veggies in broth? Thursday, June 14, 2012 2:10 PM (permalink)
61 year old with type II diabetes managed by diet.  Slow progress, decided to give almased a try after researching a lower calorie, healthier way to way loss. This is day one for me and   i just finished my 2nd shake made with a almond/coconut blend milk, cinnamon, 2 tsps. flaxseed oil and 2 tbsp flaxseed.  I added 4 strawberries, since the main complaint I've read about, other than price, seems to be that the drink is not palatable.  I need to succeed at this, so didn't want to be discouraged by taste after  doing a test run last night. 4 strawberries fresh frozen with  no sugar added, no syrup or other additives seem to do it for me.

My blood sugar is usually higher in the morning.  It was 153 before almased and 2 hours later down to 130.  Before lunch shake  BS was 103.  I wasn't experiencing any hunger, but decided to have a shake since I didn't want to go more than 4-1/2 hours without ingesting anything.

So far, so good.  I am getting my water in and I just made my veggie broth.  I don't want to throw them away so wonder  if I can blend them in with the broth?  It may come out a little thick and require the use of a spoon, but is this ok?

Hi Newbyrd61,  Welcome to our forum!

Typically we recommend to avoid fruits during a diet since fruits can interfere with weight loss, but in your case if your blood sugar levels can stay in the normal ranges then it is ok. Be sure to keep a close eye on your blood sugar levels when adding fruit and remove fruits from the diet if necessary for blood sugar control. Overall, it's good to hear that you're doing well so far. Keep up the good work.

As for the veggie broth, we recommend for it to be mostly clear for the sake of a low-calorie diet. However, you can blend the veggie into the broth to make it more like a veggie juice. As long as there is no chunks and is drinkable then it is ok.

Happy health and wellness! I look forward to hearing more from you.

    - Jamie
