Beginning Day 5 Tuesday, August 09, 2011 9:37 AM (permalink)
Hi all

I'm just beginning day 5 of my 14-day fast. I just went for a run/walk and on my way back, I picked up skim milk and kefir. I plan to mix a little bit of strawberry kefir in my shake to give it more flavor. I'm getting more creative day by day in terms of what to mix into my shakes!

Yesterday, I took a break from exercising since it rained all day anyway and I had a couple tablespoons of peanut butter in between my shakes. While I feel that I shouldn't snack on peanut butter, it helped satisfy my cravings. This morning, I followed the advice from Silke and mixed 6 tablespoons of Almased. I've noticed that I'm starving when I get up in the morning so I feel a little lightheaded but after a shake, I'm all good to go.

Have a blissful day!

    Hello sky,

If you feel lightheaded and very hungry, you should go back to 8 tablespoons of Almased again.
That way, you are providing your body with everything it needs, curb appetite and might actually speed up the weight loss process.

      Hi Silke

I'm 5' 2'' and I read that my recommended amount of Almased per shake is 6 tablespoons based on my height. I don't know if going up to 8 tablespoons would be too much or not. I also really like the kefir (4 oz), skim milk (8 oz), and Almased (6 tablespoons) combination but I'm worried that this is going to slow down my weight loss. I was hoping to lose 10 lbs by the end of my 14-day fast. I've never tried the shake with water and I'm not sure if I'll be able to tolerate it without other flavors added. My current weight is probably right around 130 lbs and I don't know if I can lose a lot of weight like others have during the fast. I keep reading how people have lost 5-6 lbs during the first week of their fast but I don't know if I'll be able to see similar results. In general, how much weight loss should I expect at the end of 14-day fast based on my current height and weight?

        Hello sky,

8 level tablespoons is the average serving size that anyone can take. You are right that for your height you could start out with 6 tablespoons, however, if this amount doesn't fill you up or makes you lightheaded, then it is more beneficial for you to use 8 tablespoons per shake. We've actually seen that people tend to do better when using 8 tablespoons, so you don't have to worry about going to 8.
If you seem to be losing weight you can stick with the skim milk and kefir mixture. However, if your weight loss is slowing down, the best option is to mix Almased in water (bottled or filtered). You can add different flavors to the water so that it doesn't taste too bland for you if that's what you are worried about. You can add vanilla extract, cinnamon, ground flaxseeds, unsweetened cocoa powder, lemon slices to the water for example to give it a different flavor. Also, please keep in mind that losing 10 lbs in 14 days is a lot of weight loss that not everyone will achieve. Healthy weight loss is considered about 1-2 lbs per week. Weight loss depends on a lot of factors, especially on how much a person weighs to start out with (heavier people tend to lose more at the beginning), what medications a person is on, what diet they follow etc. So try not to compare yourself with others since their circumstances might be totally different than yours. Instead, try to focus on your weight loss journey and we can go from their. It is hard to predict the amount of weight loss because of all those factors that play a role. Measuring inches around stomach and hips is a good way to follow weight loss success besides the scale as well as trying on clothes to see if they fit looser.

Let us know how you are doing.
