    Hi Mashley25,

We welcome you to the Almased community.

Congratulation to your 5 pound weight loss in 1 week! That is great progress. Remember, healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week, so a 5 pound weight loss in a week is definitely something to celebrate. During this weight loss program, we recommend to focus on inches instead of the scale. Measure your stomach and hips 1x a week. Inches will give a more accurate depiction of your progress.

During the first phase of the Almased program, the body will undergo heavy detoxification. The body is flushing out acidic by-products that are released while the body is breaking down fat which can attribute to your tiredness and headaches. If you experience these symptoms, it is a good idea to take Vitamin C supplements, and drink plenty of vegetable broth in between. The vegetable broth has antioxidants that can counter the effects of detox. You may even consider taking 200-400 mg/d of magnesium and up to 1000 mg/d of potassium to help with the headaches. For potassium you can start with 200mg/d and see how you feel before you increase the dosage.

It can be easy to get frustrated during a diet. Just remember that losing weight takes time and in the end, patience will pay off.

Goodluck with your weight loss journey, keep us posted on how you are doing.

    -Jamie

My head feels tight and I have a fuzzy brain this week on Almased, I too am feeling tired and having headaches, and HOT FLASHES like you would not believe!  So here are my questions:
How much Vitamin C should we use along with the  200-400 mg of Magnesium & 1000 mg/d Potassium?
I took a multivitamin today with the 400 mg Magnesium and Vitamin C too, I felt awful all day... started my shakes last Saturday my first 3 days I felt fine. I like that the shakes keep me full and I am drinking lots of water. I mix my shake with canola oil & skim milk sometimes I use cocoa powder (non sweetened) and sometimes I switch to bottled water and maybe stick in a few frozen strawberrries or peaches and maybe a Banana..I just order 2 more cans but I'm getting a little discourged by the way I feel...I'm 54 and know I'm in Menopause (that doesn't help.. :)

        Hello mvpwest,

If you experience headaches, you may take additional vitamins and minerals. Especially helpful are magnesium, riboflavin (vitamin B2) (400 mg per day) and vitamin C (400 mg per day).
In addition, drink plenty of liquids, especially the vegetable broth/juice during the fast.
If you continue feeling not well on the liquid diet, you may want to consider starting with the 2nd phase, having Almased twice per day and eating one regular meal. This is the actual weight loss phase and might work better with you since it is not such a drastic way of dieting.

Let us know how you are doing.
